Volunteer Opportunities
Want to volunteer your time to help the Society?
We are always glad to have helping hands! There are several areas where help is always needed, including the Company Store, working on identifying and cataloging old B&O materials in our archives, helping with setting up our conventions and mini-conferences, and helping to develop special projects and grants.
Our core mission includes broadening an understanding of the history of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. You can help this effort through supporting our activities and research efforts. We have obtained a treasure trove of documents concerning B&O’s equipment, facilities, and operations from the railroad and private sources, with more constantly arriving. Identifying and cataloging these materials is a fun and rewarding undertaking.
We typically meet at the Eldersburg archive facility on Thursdays. Volunteers will learn interesting aspects of B&O’s equipment, facilities, and operations, deal with actual B&O documents, enjoy camaraderie among folks with similar interests, and enhance their personal interests in the B&O. For more information and how to get involved, email us at archives@borhs.org.
More Ways to Help
There are opportunities for those living outside the Baltimore area. Our conventions look for assistance with organization and publicity, arrangements for convention activities, locating venues and speakers, preparation of convention booklets, and leading convention activities. You can also develop your own clinic presentations for conventions on B&O-related topics and modeling.
You can help write articles for The Sentinel, with the assistance of the crew at the archives and the magazine’s editor. More information on how to contribute to the magazine is available on our Sentinel page.
You can support our mission with your contributions, whether financially or with your collections of photos and documents. For more information, click here.
