Shenandoah Subdivision to Brunswick to Winchester, September 1956

HO Scale

Fran Giacoma’s 13’x21’ HO layout depicts the Shenandoah Subdivision between Harpers Ferry and Winchester in late September 1956. A 2’x12’, 7-track staging yard (in a separate room) represents Brunswick Yard. The layout is essentially complete, with details and upgrades constantly being added/performed. Operation is by timetable/train order using a 6:1 fast clock with an operating crew of 3-4. DCC control is provided. 75% of the 25 diesel locomotives (representing models from EMD, Alco, BLH, & FM) are equipped with various types of Soundtraxx sound decoders and high-quality speakers. Although passenger service stopped in 1949, a RDC is run from Harpers Ferry to Winchester in the morning and returns in the evening. A 4-car Race Track Special is run from Harpers Ferry to Charles Town and return. Various road freights, locals, and switchers serve 30 industries across the layout. All rolling stock, structures, vehicles, and scenery are lightly weathered based upon photos from that era.
