B&O GP-30 Freight Roadswitcher, B&O Number 6973, Sunburst paint
scheme, which was used from 1962 to about 1964. EMD GP-30's first ran on the B&O
in October 62, and by January 63 there were 77 of the 2250hp diesels plying
B&O rails, bearing numbers 6900-6976. Paint scheme from 11/62 to early
1964 was the short-lived Sunburst paint scheme. Running system-wide they
lasted into the 1990's. Too slippery for drags, they initially ran on
fast freight and merchandise through-trains between Philadelphia and
B&O's western gateways of Chicago, St. Louis, and Cincinnati |

B&O Wartime composite hoppers N-37 RTR set of 3 Road numbers
30740, 30911, and 31019, by PROTO-2000. Wooden panel version of an all-steel
offset-side open hopper car design, proposed in 1935 by the car committee of
the Association of American Railroads, became the AAR standard fifty ton
twin hopper car. With WWII approaching, the AAR car committee was authorized
to develop a War Emergency hopper in which wood would be used where possible
in place of sheet steel. Almost eleven thousand of these War Emergency fifty
ton composite twin hoppers were built between late 1942 and early 1945 |

I-5 early wood-sided caboose (1925-1941+). PMSS number PMHK-01. Second
generation kit with etched brass detail parts. A highly detailed resin-cast
one-piece carbody (ends & sides), separate underframe & roof, Tichy
archbar trucks, toolbox. Tool box is separate, can be applied if desired
(1925-1931+) or omitted (1931+). Some I-5's had toolboxes on several
years after the 1931 change in the standard plans, i.e., 1931 was a start
date for removing toolboxes. Tool box is not in the other kits. Tichy
archbar trucks, complete with oil covers and brake shoes. Bearings are
included for the axles, and PMSS also added leaf springs to look authentic.
From 1925 to 1952, the brake system on I-5 cabooses was the KC style (Tichy
brake sprue) with the exception of brake levers which are resin cast to be
more authentic. Decals with the early I-5 is BALTIMORE & OHIO spelled
out on one line in white. Note that archbar trucks and K brakes BEGAN
changing in 1941, but we cannot assume because B&O updated the specs on
a caboose diagram in 1941 that all I-5's were updated by 1941. There was
no urgency to be rid of archbar trucks on cabooses since they were not
interchanged to other RRs. Conversion took decades to complete. You could
have early I-5 cabooses on transition era (1948-58) model RR and be correct.
Conversion from K to AB brakes went on into the 1950s, and records exist
documenting these conversions, even at that date. NOTE: Our resin kits are
made by Pacific Mountain Scale Shops (PMSS). All resin caboose kits have K-D
air hoses and numerous detail parts. Diagram sheets show how to install
trainline and shows proper placement of K-D airhoses. Full instructions for
assembly and painting are in each kit. These models are built with pockets
to easily accept K-D and other couplers but couplers are NOT included.
Detail parts include preformed grabirons for end sills, plus wire and a
bending jig for the more unique grabirons. Curved side grabs are included
for later models. Kits come with a handrail template sheet for the wire
bending jig as well as styrene eyebolts for handrail support. Styrene strip
is included to create strapping on walkways. Unpainted. Very Limited

BALTIMORE & OHIO Class I-1 Caboose kit. PMHK12. In Aug. 1913, the
B&O released the first new standard eight wheel caboose. The car had a
steel underframe, type K air brakes and diamond arch bar trucks. The first
I-1 were numbered between C-5 and C-137 using numbers to fill gaps in the
class I number series. The 30 foot car had a 24 ft center cupola and wood
body. The end platforms were narrow and had coach type steps. Between Aug
1913 and April 1918 more I-1’s were built. Over the years, as
individual cars went in for refurbishing or repairs, or if a particular shop
had time and materials, the railroad replaced the trucks as newer types
became available. They also updated the safety appliances, the air brake
systems and couplers. Some cupolas were removed from cars used in switching
or terminals service. Some had end platforms widened and steps replaced. As
the cabooses were produced the B&O numbered them from C-142 to C-399.
